Former Sarnia chief’s youth charges withdrawn

July 7, 2017, Sarnia, Ont. – Sexual abuse charges involving allegations against former Sarnia fire chief Patrick Cayen when he was a youth were withdrawn Thursday. Pursuit of the charges was not in the interest of justice, according to the assistant Crown attorney James Boonstra. An appeal count decision overturned Cayen’s 2015 convictions on 33 adult and youth sex charges that were separated by more than 30 years. New trials have been ordered.
