Firefighter accused of sexual assault facing new charge

Nov. 30, 2017, Winnipeg – A Winnipeg firefighter charged with sexually assaulting a woman and two underage girls is back in custody after he allegedly tried to communicate with them.

Manuel Ruiz was arrested last Friday on a charge of obstruction of justice.

The 52-year-old man had been released on bail about a month before following several weeks in custody.

Court documents show Ruiz, who is also a martial arts instructor, is accused of asking another man to find the alleged victims and interfere with the course of justice.

The obstruction of justice offence is alleged to have happened Oct. 2.

Ruiz was previously charged with sexual assault, sexual exploitation and other sexual offences, as well as forcible confinement, luring a child via telecommunication, providing liquor to a minor and drug possession. (Winnipeg Free Press)
