Crews fight hotspots in N.S.

June 11, 2018, Cole Harbour, N.S. – Crews are fighting hotspots in a forest fire near a popular hiking trail in Cole Harbour, N.S.

Halifax fire division chief Brad Connors says the fire covers an area of about eight hectares near the Salt Marsh Trail outside Halifax.

He says about 12 homes in the area are still under an evacuation order that originally applied to roughly 100 homes, though it was lifted for most of them by about 9 p.m. Sunday. Fire officials say they may still need to be evacuated again at a moment’s notice.

Cole Harbour Place has been opened to people forced from their homes by the fire. Environment Canada issued a special air quality statement, saying residents down wind of the fire may experience smoke and elevated pollution.
