Alberta wildfire concerns for evacuation

May 25, 2018, Janvier, Alta. – Residents of a northern Alberta hamlet have been told to prepare for a possible evacuation because of an out-of-control wildfire.

The alert for Janvier (ZHAHN’-vyay) in the Rural Municipality of Wood Buffalo was issued last evening after the fire broke out earlier in the day.

The blaze is about 10 kilometres south of the community and officials say that while it doesn’t pose a direct threat, air quality may be affected and the fire is burning northwest toward the access route to Janvier. Residents of the Chip Prairie First Nation have also been told to prepare for a possible evacuation.
